SCPC Disputes at Constitutional Court Law on Road Building without Tender

The State Commission for Prevention of Corruption (SCPC) filed to the Constitutional Court an initiative for evaluation of the constitutionality of the recently adopted Law on Determining Strategic Partners for Construction of Roads along Corridors VIII and X. The initiative also contains a request for the Constitutional Court to issue a temporary measure for halt of the implementation of the law until the initiative is processed. SCPC disputes this law because it allows for the government to contract companies for construction of roads without organisation of a public tender. “We believe that this law in this form violates the postulates for fight against corruption and conflict of interest. For the sake of public interest these contracts need to be done public, not in shortened procedures and behind closed doors, and above all in the Parliament,” said SCPC President Biljana Ivanovska.
