Mitsotakis: We Do Not Support Bulgaria in Blockade

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis categorically stands behind North Macedonia over the Bulgarian blockade on the start of EU membership talks. Mitsotakis believes that Bulgaria unnecessarily complicates matters, while sending a clear message that the Western Balkans belong to Europe. The Greek Prime Minister made this statement during his participation in the “Athens Democratic Forum”, where he referred to the upcoming European Union Summit in Slovenia, which will be held next week. “No. We do not support Bulgaria. We consider it an unnecessary complication. We will meet in Slovenia in a few days. We need to offer the Western Balkans a clear European perspective. We need to talk openly about enlargement. We need to send a signal that in 10-15 years, no matter how necessary, but that the Western Balkans belong to Europe, because the possible vacuum that would be created will be occupied by other players, something that is already happening,” says Mitsotakis.
