Zaev’s Resignation yet to Reach Parliament

PM Zoran Zaev’s resignation still hasn’t reached Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi so that the procedure in the frames of the legislative home starts. At the regular meeting on Monday, MP group coordinators just found that six parliamentarians (four from VMRO-DPMNE and one each from SDSM and BESA) had won as mayoral candidates in the local elections. However, the session for verification will be held after the final results are presented. According to the Constitution, a resignation of a PM entails a resignation of the whole government. The President, within 10 days, needs to hand over the mandate to the one who has secured a majority of 61 MPs in Parliament. Stevo Pendarovski’s Cabinet says the President hasn’t been officially informed by Xhaferi that the PM has resigned. According to VMRO-DPMNE, after the local elections, the government is delegitimised. That’s why the party demands early parliamentary elections.
