Smaller Parties Are Again Asking for One Constituency

One constituency, no electoral threshold, open lists, proportional model – the smaller parliamentary parties again, this time in the run-up to the vote for a new government, are actualizing their demand for reform of the electoral legislation. However, they do not specify whether this will be a condition for the government in exchange for their parliamentary votes for the government, but say they will insist that all major parties give the green light as soon as possible. At a meeting in the Parliament, five MPs who are signatories of the bill from March this year, said that the goal is not the salvation of small parties, but equality of the vote. The first attempt of the MPs to change the Electoral Code was before last year’s parliamentary elections which was unsuccessful with an amendment block by VMRO-DPMNE and DUI, so in 2020 the same model was used, which was accepted in 2002. This spring, however, after the last leadership meeting with Zaev, the leader of VMRO-DPMNE Mickoski said that one constituency is acceptable for them, but DUI remained against.
