VMRO-DPMNE’s Mickoski: ‘We Must Start Thinking about’ Early Elections

In an interview with the 360 Stepeni (360 Degrees) TV show, VMRO-DPMNE President Hristijan Mickoski says that citizens who voted for his party in the 2021 local elections want early parliamentary elections to be held as well. However, Mickoski’s stand is that early elections cannot happen now and immediately, considering the latest developments in relation to the formation of the new Government. “When we say ‘parliamentary elections now and immediately’, I am absolutely aware that that ‘now and immediately’ doesn’t mean there will be early parliamentary elections today and tomorrow. However, we must start thinking about that because the situation in the country is not good,” the opposition leader stresses. According to him, 66% of citizens in all opinion polls say the country is moving in a wrong direction. In response, SDSM said new elections were not needed. “Amidst an energy and economic crisis, in a situation when the parliamentary majority is stable, while the Government has full legitimacy, work is needed to overcome the consequences of the crises, not early elections and a new halt, new blockades,” the ruling party notes.
