North Macedonia Joins EU Sanctions against Russia over Invasion of Ukraine

The Government of North Macedonia held an urgent session on Thursday dedicated to the situation in Ukraine, and reached a decision to join the sanctions the EU decided to introduce against Russia, after Russian military forces started an invasion over Ukraine. At the same session, the government ordered the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to take all measures necessary for evacuation of citizens of North Macedonia from Ukraine. Also on Thursday, President Stevo Pendarovski assembled the Security Council in order to discuss the situation in Ukraine. “All relevant authorities are advised to check resource reserves and follow the situation carefully. We are also taking all necessary measures to evacuate our citizens currently in Ukraine. The Security Council calls upon all political leaders and citizens to refrain from making statements that may instigate hatred or spread fake news about the situation in Ukraine. As NATO member, North Macedonia remains in constant coordination with the Alliance’s Headquarters in Brussels in relation to any future steps the Alliance will decided to take,” they informed from the Office of President Pendarovski.
