Official Position of Sofia Towards North Macedonia Remains Unchanged

Leaders of the political parties consisting the ruling majority in Bulgaria held a meeting in Sofia on Tuesday evening, at which they concluded that the official positions of Sofia towards North Macedonia remain unchanged. “We are constantly discussing the ongoing events and negotiations with North Macedonia, and once we conclude that the Bulgarian national interests are protected, we shall conform to the realisation of the Bulgarian national interest for North Macedonia to be integrated in the EU, but first the government in Skopje needs to conduct the demands of the Bulgarian parliament, formulated in a declaration that was adopted last year,” said Leader of “Democratic Bulgaria” Hristo Ivanov. Few days ago, Bulgarian PM Kiril Petkov voiced optimism that the Bulgarian veto for the EU integration of North Macedonia may be lifted soon.
