Enlargement Commissioner Varhelyi Comments on EU Road of Skopje and Tirana

If necessary, I will go to Skopje and Sofia every day so that this ends now. That was the message sent by Enlargement Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi from Tirana on Thursday. He expects the two countries will nonetheless have started negotiations by the end of June despite the veto and Bulgaria’s firm position. As Sitel TV reported, asked until when Albania would be mocked due to the constant delay of the negotiations, Varhelyi stated that the whole blame was on the EU, adding that, in the situation, it was the one that should be mocked due to the promises it constantly broke. His message to Albania is for it to wait at least a little longer for a Skopje-Sofia deal to be reached. Recently, Albanian PM Edi Rama stated that Tirana no longer intended to wait for the end of the infinite dispute between North Macedonia and Bulgaria for a green light for negotiations. From Brussels, he asked for decoupling if June doesn’t see the Council decide on a start of negotiations.
