The Head of the EU Delegation, Ambassador David Geer, stated on Thursday that a start of EU negotiations for Skopje and Tirana benefited everyone. “We want to a start of negotiations with North Macedonia and Albania as soon as possible. I don’t know whether that will happen by June, but we’re working towards achieving that goal because it benefits everyone,” he stated, adding that French President Emmanuel Macron’s idea for a new European community didn’t apply to the Western Balkan countries that had a European perspective for membership. Germany, too, considers that the Western Balkan countries belong to the EU. As Ambassador Anke Holstein pointed out, Chancellor Olaf Scholz earlier that day said that in the declaration in the federal Parliament.
