EU Path: Pendarovski Increasingly Convinced Skopje Should Lower Expectations

President Stevo Pendarovski is more and more convinced that North Macedonia should lower its expectations regarding its integration path. According to him, the complex political situation in Bulgaria and Kiril Petkov’s unstable Government is just an additional problem in the attempts to lift the veto. Pendarovski adds that public opinion is in favour of the veto, which is another problem for Petkov. Former Bulgarian President Petar Stoyanov, too, believes that Bulgaria’s veto is a big mistake. In his view, Sofia’s current communication towards Skopje is aggressive. The ex-Bulgarian President’s stand is that though Sofia can achieve all national interests with Skopje and the historical issues, that should be done in a friendly tone.
