10th Protest Against French Proposal in Skopje

Hundreds of citizens gathered for another protest against the French proposal in Skopje. The protest, like in the days before, started in front of the government, from where the protesters marched towards the Parliament, where they once again addressed appeals for the government to not accept the French proposal which is to lift the Bulgarian veto for accession of North Macedonia in the EU. During the protest, several young men staged a performance in which they presented themselves as PM Dimitar Kovacevski, FM Bujar Osmani and Deputy PM for European Affairs Bojan Maricic, and acted as if they sign a document titled “Bulgarianisation of Macedonia”, which was later torn apart by the protesters. VMRO-DPMNE and Levica, which support the protests, claim that the French proposal contains regulations that endanger the uniqueness of the Macedonian language and national identity. New protests are scheduled for Thursday around noon, when the parliamentary session over the French proposal, which is to be attended by European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen, is also to take place.
