Varhelyi: Our Eyes Now Pointed at Skopje

European Commissioner for Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi said during his visit to Albania on Thursday that now all eyes of Europe are pointed at North Macedonia. “Our eyes and ears are pointed towards Skopje and we must witness a democratic debate over the French proposal and the accession of the country in the EU. EC President Ursula von der Leyen made her contribution today, and we hope that fruitful debate will develop from there,” Varhelyi said, adding that Albania may hold the first inter-governmental conference with Brussels over the EU accession process as soon as next week. On this occasion, Albanian PM Edi Rama announced that if there is no progress made in Skopje, he will request official decoupling of Albania from North Macedonia in the EU accession processes.
