MoFA Explains Unilateral Statement About Macedonian Language

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs came out with explanation about the unilateral statement addressed to official Brussels about the Macedonian language, as part of the process for start of the EU accession talks for North Macedonia. “The unilateral statement contains references form the definition about the Macedonian language contained in our Constitution, as well as references from the Resolution adopted in the Parliament about the Macedonian language on 29 June 2021 and the conclusions related to the French proposal on 16 July 2022. Henceforth, the statement clearly defines that the Macedonian language is based upon the development of dialects which were and are present on the present-day territory of North Macedonia, i.e. the so-called central dialects on the line Bitola-Prilep-Veles-Kicevo,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs explains. In meantime, the Government of North Macedonia informed that they will not make interventions to the unilateral statement addressed to Brussels on the Macedonian language.
