Geer: EU Accession Talks Can’t Continue Without Constitutional Changes

EU Ambassador David Geer said in an interview for Radio Free Europe that the continuation of the EU accession talks for North Macedonia after the screening process is complete is conditioned by the constitutional changes for registration of the Bulgarian minority. “The accession talks have officially started with the first intergovernmental conference, and we are currently implementing the screening process. Now, the negotiation framework contains one condition for the second intergovernmental conference, which is the registration of the Bulgarian minority in the Constitution of North Macedonia. If this does not happen, the entire process will be halted, because the candidate-state in question did not conform to the prescribed obligation,” Geer said.
