The Ministry of Justice has published the Pardon Draft-Law. Everyone sentenced to up to six months in prison will be released, while those with sentences longer than half a year will see their sentences reduced by 30%.
The pardons will not cover people sentenced to life in prison and persons convicted of murder, rape, crimes against elections, the state, and public order and peace, abuse of office and unscrupulous operation, domestic and gender-based violence, fraud at the expense of EU funds, money laundering, giving and taking a bribe, and robbery.
Elected and named officials, people wanted on a warrant, those covered by the 2018 law, and persons who committed a crime after 1 September will not be covered by the text either. The Ministry said on Wednesday the goal was to solve the prison overcrowding problem.
