Euronews Albania: OLAF has Opened Investigations for North Macedonia

The European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) has opened 36 investigations for the Western Balkan countries, Euronews Albania has reported, adding that these investigations, which have been made public and are accessible on OLAF’s official website, are reported to have been conducted over the past 5 years.

According to the data, 18 of 36 investigations initiated for the Western Balkan beneficiary countries of EU funds, are related to the misuse of funds by the authorities in North Macedonia, Euronews Albania adds. The Head of the EU Delegation, Ambassador David Geer, said on Wednesday OLAF was a very serious and substantial body that carried out investigations.

“Indeed, you’ve given the figures for the number of investigations carried out. I can’t go into the details as you can imagine but I can confirm that they concern many different contexts and many different entities,” he said, answering a journalist’s question about the matter.
