Ivanov: EU Should Start Accepting New Members as Soon as Possible

The President of Macedonia Gjorge Ivanov attends the 9th Bosporus Summit in Istanbul, Turkey. At the summit, Ivanov spoke about the challenges Macedonia faces, including the integration in the EU. “The EU was the most successful peace project that mobilised the countries in the Balkans. We are voluntarily changing our societies in order to become a part of this union. However, being fed up with the waiting to become part of EU, instead of dealing with reforms, we started dealing with each other. Because of this, it is important for EU to initiate the processes for accepting these new members as soon as possible,” Ivanov said, adding that the Balkan countries can make greater successes only when they establish proper political, economic and security cooperation.
