Parliament Adopts Decision for Announcing Referendum on 30 Sep.

The Macedonian parliament with 68 votes in favour and no abstentions or against adopted decision for announcing name referendum on 30 September 2018 which will be of consultative nature. The decision for calling the referendum was adopted by absolute majority of the total number of MPs. The referendum question will read as follows: ‘Are you in favour of EU and NATO membership by accepting the Agreement between the Republic of Macedonia and the Republic of Greece.’ SDSM MP Group Coordinator Tomislav Tuntev addressed the MPs saying the referendum is an opportunity for citizens to recognise the historic decision and opt for European future of Macedonia which will be enabled through full implementation of the agreement with Greece. The voting did not see the participation of the opposition VMRO-DPMNE who left the parliament hall.
