NATO membership is a chance for a safe region and calm citizens, Defence Minister Radmila Sekerinska and the Deputy Ambassador of the United States, Micaela Schweitzer-Bluhm, said during Wednesday’s visit to Krivolak, answering a journalist’s question about the latest security challenges, especially those regarding new border changes in the Balkans. Since its independence, the Minister pointed out, Macedonia has paid a high price for the numerous conflicts and wars in its neighbourhood. “NATO membership is a chance to end these fears. We are working on the whole Balkans being a stable region and we are primarily working on our country and our citizens being safe,” she stressed. According to her, it is expected for a huge number of Macedonian citizens to support the country’s EU and NATO membership. Schweitzer-Bluhm considers that the NATO mechanism can ensure stability the best. In her view, Macedonia will be a future NATO member.
