Authorities Distance Themselves from Responsibility over Retaining Wall Issue

Though citizens are demanding a quick reaction from authorities over the collapse of the retaining wall near the Clinic Centre, it remains unknown who has the competence.

The City of Skopje’s stand is that Belgradska Street falls under the competence and is owned by Centar Municipality.

Also, it added that, according to the law, the wall could be built/reconstructed only by the Health Ministry or an organ of the institution authorised to do so. However, Centar Municipality said it didn’t have the competence either.

“If that was the case, we would have solved the problem by now,” Mayor Goran Gerasimovski stressed.

The Ministry stated it didn’t have the competence either, explaining that it didn’t have a right to use state-owned land, on which the wall was built.
