VLEN Gives up on Six-Month Deadline for Constitutional Changes

VLEN’s six-month deadline for constitutional changes to include Bulgarians in the Constitution, which was a condition for entering the ruling coalition, no longer applies.

On Friday, the coalition said that that was a result of the political instability in Bulgaria, adding that there was no pressure from VMRO-DPMNE.

“Considering the situation in the Republic of Bulgaria, I think there is room for coordination with the international factor in order for the deadline to be prolonged. Currently, the situation in the other country, from the standpoint of governance by the executive power, is not stable,” VLEN Spokesperson Fari Hiseni said.

VLEN hasn’t revealed whether it agrees with VMRO-DPMNE’s stand that the changes should enter into force once the country joins the EU.
