The German government has recommended a start of EU negotiations for Macedonia. In a letter addressed to the Bundestag, the government assesses that the Macedonian authorities’ reform balance speaks in favour of a start of negotiations at the Summit next week. The date will be the true positive signal for the Macedonian government that has followed in a focused manner the reform course as opposed to the political pressure from inside and outside, reads the letter reported by Deutsche Welle Macedonian. As it is added, the conditionality must be kept. The conditions that Macedonia will have to meet are clearly visible steps to restore the judiciary’s independence, further efforts to reform the public administration sector, for example, in the field of staff policy, and prioritising the fight against organised crime and corruption.
