A new shipment of 100,000 Pfizer vaccines through COVAX will arrive on Friday. Two days later, the 500,000 Sinovac doses will come as well. Health Minister Venko Filipce said on Thursday that the use of the Sinovac vaccines would start at the beginning of next week. There is vaccination also of employees that are part of the critical infrastructure. 33% of teaching staff have been vaccinated, while the plan is for the rest of teachers to get vaccinated before the end of the summer for the potential start of the school year on 1 September. The period ahead will see an accelerated vaccination pace because it has been shown that the vaccines protect also against the Delta variant. As Filipce added, there have been cases in some countries where even vaccinated people contracted that variant, but they had no major health problems and weren’t hospitalised.
