In an interview with Sitel, regarding the absence of the flag of North Macedonia during her visit to Sofia, President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova says her visit was not strictly private.
“The visit had a cultural purpose because the Macedonian National Opera was performing there,” the President points out.
Siljanovska Davkova says that though she doesn’t believe the flag situation was created intentionally, she was negatively surprised by why she hadn’t been informed.
According to her, the last agreement between protocol members from both countries was for there to be a photo of the tête-à-tête. However, as she explains, she didn’t know that photos would need to be taken in the area for taking photos.
When she saw that there was no flag of North Macedonia, the President also explains, she decided that it was better for her not to, as she stresses, cause a scandal.
“So, I am not the one responsible for the scandal and gaffe, but rather the host probably made an oversight,” the President notes.
She points out that her conversation with counterpart Rumen Radev was long and friendly, adding that there was respect.
