On Tuesday, after the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office for Prosecution of Organised Crime and Corruption had submitted the opinion to apply the Amnesty Law to ex-Parliament Speaker Trajko Veljanoski and former ministers Spiro Ristevski and Mile Janakieski, the trial over the 27 April Organisers case, which concerns the issue of organisation of the 27 April 2017 storming of Parliament, the trial was postponed for 23 January.
The Criminal Court will need to decide on the opinion and the parties’ request by that date. The Office confirmed that it had issued the opinion following instructions from the Court of Appeals.
According to the Islam Abazi-headed institution, the request by the lawyers of Ristoski, Janakieski, and Veljanoski to apply the law in order for their respective clients to be treated the same as the other suspects and defendants that were amnestied is something that cannot be disputed. The opinion doesn’t cover defendant Vladimir Atanasovski, ex-head of the Security and Counterintelligence Administration.
