The Skopje Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office, regarding Skopje Mayor Danela Arsovska’s allegations about legalisation of illegal structures, has said that, upon a notification from the Skopje Internal Affairs Sector, it has issued orders on which there’s already been action.
For two weeks, Arsovska has alleged on social media that there is legalisation of illegal buildings and that Cair Mayor Visar Ganiu is carrying out such activities unlawfully, by using fake documents. She’s also claimed there have been death threats.
“If the Mayor, as an official person, has information about a crime, she has an obligation to report that, cooperate with the Office and point out regarding which specific land parcels or buildings suspicions of illegalities have been discovered. That’s necessary for the Office to be able to act and prevent potential compromising of the evidence material”, the institution explained in Saturday’s press-release.
Regarding the death threats issue, it pointed out that the Interior Ministry was the organ that had direct competences.
“The Prosecutor’s Office is at the disposal to, through an on-call prosecutor, immediately, without delay, to hear the Mayor, if she wants that, regarding all suspicions, information, threats, and to check all circumstances”, it was also pointed out.
According to Ganiu, there are illegal structures everywhere in Skopje, not only in Cair, while institutions should take activities if there is something unlawful regarding his work.
Later on Saturday, Arsovska submitted all documents showing, according to her, unlawful construction in Cair. She asked why the Prosecutor’s Office had previously acted in cases upon rumour, but in the current process, it had asked her to file a report. Arsovska also stated that she was not afraid of Ganiu and Mexhiti.
“I expect for there to be finally action in order to secure the evidence they’re trying to destroy”, the Mayor underlined.
She emphasized that she would bring the entire documentation (150 cases) on Monday.
“I don’t intend to put myself and my family in danger because someone is taking no action”, Mayor Arsovska said too.
The previous day, that is, on Friday, Arsovska had alleged that the Financial Police Administration had went to the home of Ivana Bajkova Salja, who heads of the City of Skopje’s Spatial Planning and Arrangement Department, and summoned her to give a statement over a case from several years ago.
According to Arsovska, that means VLEN officials have pressured and intimidated Bajkova Salja over her comments that the illegal buildings in Cair were unsafe and, as a result, a tragedy bigger than the 16 March Kocani fire might occur.
