PM Mickoski Says GERB MEP will Try to Introduce Amendment Challenging Macedonian Identity

PM Hristijan Mickoski is worried because, as he said on Sunday, a Bulgarian MEP representing GERB will try to file an amendment, to Rapporteur Thomas Waitz’s draft-report, denying the individuality of the Macedonian people.

According to the PM, the MEP will attempt to introduce an amendment defining Macedonian identity as a “present” one. That, he said, confirms that the constitutional changes are not the essential problem, that is, that the issue is about “full assimilation”.

Mickoski also stated that he and Waitz had worked in the past months for the text to clearly highlight the individuality of the many-century-long individuality of the Macedonian identity and language.

Previously, MEP Waitz had told Bulgaria-based bTV that it was a fact that “Macedonian language” and “Macedonian identity” were referred to in the text, adding that he saw no problem with that.
