According to PM Hristijan Mickoski, the main goal of Bulgaria is to present Macedonians as a new and artificial nation. As he pointed out on Monday, it’s not about the constitutional changes, but rather about showing Macedonians come from the Bulgarian nation’s roots.
“I will not allow and accept such a thing”, he stressed.
The PM also pointed out that he expected Europe to give a concrete answer and “fix the historic injustice towards us”.
Mickoski believes that it was then-PM Dimitar Kovacevski and then-Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani who made the mistake, with their acceptance of the French proposal.
On the other hand, Bulgarian MEP Andrey Kovatchev believes that North Macedonia is wasting its time with the lobbying within the EP for its many-century-long Macedonian identity to be recognized.
In an interview with bTV, he criticises Rapporteur Thomas Waitz’s draft-report, in addition to calling on PM Hristijan Mickoski and authorities in Skopje to work on what has been assumed by the country as an obligation.
“The problem is that they are being used, as we have seen, even before the adoption of those texts, by North Macedonia, by its PM as some triumph over Bulgaria, about there being some many-thousand or many-centuries-long history separate from everything else, especially from Bulgarian history, from the common history, which is part of the 2017 Treaty”, Kovatchev stresses, noting that the current cabinet in Skopje has refused to implement the 2022 compromise.
