Amendments by Bulgarian MEPs to Rapporteur Thomas Waitz’s draft-report concerning the Macedonian identity and nation are unacceptable and not European, President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova has assessed.
“I honestly didn’t expect to read or hear, in the 21st century, within the EP, some amendments challenging somebody’s identity,” she pointed out on Tuesday, adding that if MEP Waitz’s text was not supported, that would be very bad for the EP’s democratic capacity.
Asked whether there was an official confirmation from her Bulgarian counterpart, Rumen Radev, of a meeting on the sidelines of the NATO Summit in The Hague at the end of the month, Siljanovska Davkova didn’t give a concrete answer.
However, in her view, the resolution adopted by Bulgaria’s Parliament on 30 May is making dialogue with authorities in Sofia harder.
