LDP Draft-Law on Single Electoral District Rejected

LDP’s proposal for the country to become a single electoral district has been rejected.

On Thursday, the party’s Draft-Law was supported by just 19 MPs. Party leader Monika Zajkova said the country having six electoral districts represented constitutional injustice, adding that if there was a single district, each vote would have equal value.

On the other hand, the ruling majority stated that though it supported such a model, its condition was for the diaspora to be able to vote as well.

PM Hristijan Mickoski again confirmed that his party, VMRO-DPMNE, would have no problem with supporting a single electoral district provided that the diaspora condition was met.

On the other hand, when it comes to the ruling party’s initiative to abolish the legal gap created following the Constitutional Court’s decision on the issue of independent candidates, it was supported. The final decision is expected to be confirmed at a plenary session.
