On Friday, in Skopje, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto, regarding North Macedonia’s EU path, said his country was in the minority of EU members that truly supported enlargement with the Western Balkans.
According to him, North Macedonia should soon start the opening of chapters, but some EU members set obstacles and just declaratively support enlargement, that is, they say other things backstage.
After the meeting with the Hungarian politician, North Macedonia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Timco Mucunski, stated that there were no guarantees that the constitutional changes would be the last demands on the basis of bilateral issues. The meeting in Skopje also saw Ministers Szijjarto and Mucunski sign an agreement on strategic cooperation in multiple areas, including infrastructure.
The same day, Minister Szijjarto also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Education and Science Minister Vesna Janevska. It will enable students of North Macedonia to get 20 scholarships every year to study in Hungary in either Hungarian or a foreign language.
The priority will be on applicants interested in studying the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), as well as medical and health sciences, and agriculture.
