If Menduh Thaci decides to leave the DUI-lead European Front and decides to join VLEN, the latter’s Izet Mexhiti, who’s the 1st Deputy PM, will save the position of Deputy Defence Minister for his party, DPA.
People from the Hristijan Mickoski-led cabinet have said that there’s still been no deal for Thaci to increase the majority in Parliament by one seat in exchange for his party getting the aforementioned post. Off the record, representatives of ethnic Albanian parties have said that Thaci will return to a coalition with VMRO-DPMNE.
According to some information, the name of Beycan Ilyas of the Turkish Democratic Party, too, is being mentioned as well, with regards to the parliamentary majority issue, though he has denied that so far.
Ilyas, who’s part of the DUI-lead European Front from Electoral District 6, has even been offered an ambassadorial position, sources from the ethnic Albanian bloc have said. If Ilyas leaves Parliament, he will be succeeded by a DPA MP. If that materialises, Thaci will want a bigger piece of the pie.
