Denmark’s Bjerre Calls on North Macedonia to Use Enlargement Momentum

At a press-conference in Skopje on Wednesday with counterpart Orhan Murtezani, Denmark’s European Affairs Minister, Marie Bjerre, called on North Macedonia to use the enlargement momentum.

As she added, the key priority of Denmark, which will take over the EU Presidency on 1 July, will be enlargement, as a result of the Russian aggression and new winds from Washington.

Minister Bjerre stated that in the new geopolitical situation, the EU will be stronger if it was bigger. Her counterpart, Murtezani, agreed with that, stressing that everyone was part of the threat related to the Russian aggression and Ukraine war.

However, North Macedonia’s Minister also stated that bilateral issues shouldn’t “contaminate” enlargement.

According to the Danish politician, so far, Ukraine, Moldova, Albania, and Montenegro have had the biggest progress on the road to EU membership. During her visit to the capital, the Danish politician also held a meeting with PM Hristijan Mickoski, too. North Macedonia’s European perspective was among the topics discussed.
