Commissioner Kos: Window of Opportunity Open, Moment should Be Used as Soon as Possible

In Skopje on Tuesday, Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos stated that if the constitutional changes were made, the first intergovernmental conference with North Macedonia would be held without further conditions.

As she assessed, though the move will not be easy, the window of opportunity is open, while the moment should be used as soon as possible.

Despite declining to comment on the Bulgarian MEPs’ challenging of the Macedonian identity and language, the Commissioner stressed that identity was not a political matter, that is, it was how one felt the fatherland and cared about their tradition.

However, PM Mickoski stated that the identity was about the revolutionaries and historical figures that had given the life for the Macedonian state, regardless of whether Bulgaria liked that or not.

“We don’t accept blackmails and bribery”, the PM noted.

Despite pointing out that his country was grateful for the EC’s support, he said his cabinet was determined to help the country on its own. Regarding the EP’s plenary session that, according to announcements, will be held on 8 July, Mickoski expects, as he said, all kinds of engineering by Bulgarian MEPs.
