Skopje Mayor Danela Arsovska has on social media fiercely criticised the presence of Cair Mayor Visar Ganiu and 1st Deputy PM and Environment Minister Izet Mexhiti, both part of VLEN, at the reception organised by the US Embassy on the occasion of US Independence Day, 4 July.
In the post, she directly asks Ambassador Angela Aggeler whether it was inconvenient for her that there were, among the guests, people for whom there is “solid evidence of crime in at least 152 cases” and against whom serious investigations are currently being carried out. Also, the Mayor points out that Ganiu and Mexhiti should have been blacklisted by the US instead of attending Tuesday’s event.
The US has for decades already blacklisted politicians, ex-PMs, mayors, and judges on the basis of allegations of corruption and undermining of democratic processes, whereas for Ganiu and Mexhiti, there is irrefutable evidence, the Mayor points out as well.
For 24 TV, the US Embassy has said it declines to comment on Arsovska’s comments.
