Domestic Reactions to Adoption of Rapporteur Waitz’s Report Continue

“Denying the identity and language of one of the smallest peoples in Europe by neighboring Bulgaria is an unprecedented act and anything but a European value”, PM Hristijan Mickoski said on Thursday regarding the reactions to the adoption of MEP and Rapporteur Thomas Waitz’s Report.

He added that the “artificial architecture” Bulgarian representatives had tried to impose affected the EU’s image and values. Nonetheless, Mickoski stressed that his country would stay on the EU path and do committed work on domestic reforms.

As the PM assessed, though somebody perhaps waited, after the adoption of the document, for North Macedonia to, in a revolted manner, abandon negotiations and agreements, the country will become even more focused.

The PM also stated that despite his calls for national unification and arm extended by the cabinet, the opposition had decided to exult and level unjustified criticism. The same day, however, SDSM leader Venko Filipce, regarding the call for unification over the EU path, said his party was open to cooperation and talks at all times.

“SDSM has so far, too, called and launched initiatives for unification of national interests and the country’s EU path”, he noted.

Regarding the adoption of Rapporteur Waitz’s Report, Filipce stated that the deletion of the parts reading “Macedonian language and identity” represented a defeat of the Mickoski-led cabinet’s diplomacy.
