In an interview for Kanal 5, MEP and Rapporteur Thomas Waitz, asked whether there were reasons for his satisfaction, that is, his welcoming of the EP vote on his Report on North Macedonia, especially considering the changes the document underwent, says it was a lot of work.
“I did a lot of investigations inside North Macedonia. I had a lot of interlocutors. The starting position was a difficult one because we hadn’t had a report since 2022. Unfortunately, mainly Bulgarian MEPs were again trying to block the report as such. So, the main aim was not to have a report, and I would say not many changes have been done in the Report. Mainly, one single change has been done, and this is deleting any acknowledgement of North Macedonian identity and language”, he says.
