Silence from Official Institutions of Bulgaria over Waitz’s Comments

Though Bulgarian media have covered comments by MEP Thomas Waitz, who’s the Rapporteur on North Macedonia, about death threats received by him, made during the interview with Kanal 5, official institutions in Bulgaria have been silent.

However, the country’s President, Rumen Radev, who’s visiting Croatia said that, at the meetings with counterpart Zoran Milanovic and Croatian PM Andrej Plenkovic, he’d received support and understanding when it came to rights of Bulgarians in North Macedonia.

As he added, the more his country clarifies its thesis and the more attention it pays to Bulgarians in North Macedonia, the clearer it is that it’s not about a bilateral problem, that is, that it is about a problem of leadership in North Macedonia, which it should solve with European institutions and, finally, meet Copenhagen criteria.
