On Wednesday, Prosecutor-General Ljupco Kocevski met with Kazakhstan’s Ambassador, Satybaldy Burshakov.
Cooperation between the two countries’ respective Prosecutor’s Offices was discussed, including opportunities to advance it. As the next step, upon a proposal from the Prosecutor-General’s Office of Kazakhstan, the possibility of signing a memorandum of cooperation in the area of identifying, freezing, and recovering unlawfully acquired assets is being considered.
The document provides for multiple activities of exchange of experiences, training, and practical cooperation between relevant organs working on recovery of unlawfully acquired assets.
In that regard, Ambassador Burshakov briefed Kocevski on the results of the work of Kazakhstan’s Asset Recovery Committee.
So far, it has managed to recover assets worth around 1.3 billion dollars in cash, as well as other assets worth 237 million dollars. Kocevski said Kazakhstan’s experience in that area could be useful, adding that this Office would consider the initiative to sign a memorandum of cooperation.
