Commenting on the criminal charge against Kriva Palanka Mayor Sasko Mitovski, SDSM has described it as “embarrassing pressure” and a “dark campaign” by the government against successful mayors from the opposition party.
“VMRO-DPMNE knows it cannot win in the local elections in Kriva Palanka, so its only choice is to turn on the mechanisms of pressure and staged prosecution. The regime is coming back. Citizens mustn’t yield to this abuse, but rather strongly respond in the elections against the old regime methods of the government. However, this is no isolated case. In all municipalities headed by SDSM, an instrumentalised campaign of pressure from all institutions possible has started.
Inspection processes have been carried out, misdemeanours have been made up, whereas in municipalities headed by VMRO-DPMNE and VLEN, there’ve been no checks and no inspections. While [Interior Minister Pance] Toskovski is shamefully defending [Cair Mayor] Visar Ganiu’s 225-million-euro crime, he is making up criminal charges against those doing honest work aiming at terror and intimidation”, the opposition party stresses.
However, in response, VMRO-DPMNE has said that SDSM should get used to the law applying to everyone equally.
