At a press-conference on Sunday, Protection and Rescue Directorate Director Stojance Angelov stated that there were eight active fires on the territory of the country.
“The most serious and most complex fire is currently the one on Goten Mountain, located between Radovis, Vasilevo, and Berovo Municipality”, he stated.
North Macedonia has also activated the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. However, Angelov stated that he didn’t believe some neighboring country would be able to send assistance considering both Greece and Bulgaria, too, had activated the Mechanism, while in Serbia, there were around 200 fires on a daily basis.
“For now, we’ve had announcements about assistance. If that’s necessary, we are requesting assistance in aircraft, because we have enough forces on the ground. However, they are exhausted because this has been taking place every day. The drivers of the special vehicles, too, are exhausted. However, I believe that with their sacrifice and max engagement, they will help us set up control”, the Centre’s head added.
Among the other locations where there have been active fires are the ones near the villages of Kosevica, Nerov, as well as between Cresevo, Lokvici, and Krapa villages.
An injured Army member that was dealing with the wildfire situation in Stip was rescued by using an Interior Ministry helicopter.
