“This step is not about political ambition. It’s about a political necessity”, Zelen Human Grad (Green Humane City) says regarding its process to become a party to be able to participate in the local elections.
The procedure to collect the required 1,000 signatures has started. Nezavisni za Karpos (Independents for Karpos), Sansa za Centar (Chance for Centar), and Zelenite od Gazi Baba (The Greens from Gazi Baba), will be united into a party as well.
They point out that despite the process, they want to continue to be civil activists, adding that they’re leaving room for Parliament to start a process of authentic interpretation of the Electoral Code that will determine exactly how many signatures will be required.
As a result of the Constitutional Court’s decision in March, due to a legal gap, independent candidates at this moment are not able to run in the local elections.
