Foreign Minister Timco Mucunski has responded to comments made by his predecessor, Bujar Osmani, on topics related to the Ohrid Framework Agreement (OFA).
“It’s interesting how some persons are progressive Europeans when they are in power but, once they go in opposition, they immediately become a disciple of destabilisation and divisions, and wake up narratives of the 19th and 20th century”, the former said.
According to Mucunski, Osmani didn’t complain when he was part of a cabinet where ethnic Macedonians were the minority.
“On the contrary, decisions would be made within both the Government and Parliament without a Macedonian majority, while all of that was alright, democratic, and European. However, today, when there is a clear democratic majority, when the people, regardless of ethnic or any other affiliation, have chose change, that (in his view) becomes a ‘problem for coexistence’. To Osmani, the problem is not in the model, the problem is that DUI is no longer at the table”, the current Minister stated.
Mucunski’s comments were a response to Osmani’s accusations that the successor didn’t understand the OFA’s essence.
The accusations started immediately after it had been announced that Osmani would be endorsed by his party, DUI, as a candidate in the Cair mayoral race in the local elections that will be held in October, that is, when the ex-Minister talked about the issue of autonomy in decision-making.
That was interpreted by Mucunski as a “message of a clear political project to redefine the country, which is dangerous for the whole region”.
