The initiative filed by ex-DOM leader and former MP Liljana Popovska before the Constitutional Court concerning the Protocol with Bulgaria will most likely be debated following the vacation period. Citing a violation of 19 articles of laws, Popovska has requested that the Court declare the Protocol invalid.
Foreign Minister Timco Mucunski believes the initiative will confirm whether the constitutional changes are the only condition for the unlocking of the integration process. The Protocol, he said, is one of the most harmful documents in the country’s history, while, in its current form, there is no mandatory legal application of it.
Mucunski added that the content of the Protocol went beyond the 2017 Good-Neighbourliness Treaty.
In their coverage of his comments, Bulgarian media have said Mucunski has attacked the negotiating framework with the EU and conditions set by all members. BGNES pointed out that Mucunski was misleading citizens of North Macedonia by talking about a “Bulgarian blockade”.
