The local elections will have been scheduled by the deadline, in the first half of August, in order to leave room to appoint the positions of Ombudsperson and State Commission for Prevention of Corruption (SCPC) President, Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi said on Thursday.
He added that if a draft-decision to elect an Ombudsperson was reached, considering a Badinter majority was needed too, he could convene an urgent session that day.
“If not, we will need to wait for better times and alignment on who the candidate will be or who will be elected Ombudsperson”, he underlined.
One of the candidates that applied in the process is his Chief of Staff, Driton Nebiu. Regarding the successful no-confidence motion against Prosecutor-General Ljupco Kocevski, Gashi stated that Parliament had already voiced a stand and that other organs should hear the voice of MPs, the Government and Kocevski.
However, the Speaker stressed that the Council of Public Prosecutors, too, should do so, if it made that assessment. At the marking of Ilinden, Gashi will not deliver an address in Pelince for health reasons, saying one of the Deputy Speakers would do so.
Though MPs will be on vacation from 4 to 22 August, Gashi reiterated Parliament was constantly in session, adding that MPs would be called to participate in a session during that period, if needed.
