On Tuesday, former State Commission for Prevention of Corruption (SCPC) President Biljana Ivanovska, who is endorsed in the Centar mayoral race by Nezavisni Zaedno (Independents Together), went, on her own initiative, to the Prosecutor’s Office over the criminal charge she’d been served with on 14 August, 11 hours after she’d said she was running for Centar Mayor.
After she left the Office, she stated that the charge had been filed by a person that had been dissatisfied because the case opened against him by the SCPC had been made public, which had been followed by media reports on it.
As Ivanovska (who headed the SCPC from 2019 to 2024) pointed out, though the person that filed the charge contested the manner in which the SCPC opened cases and the process to make them public, she explained to the Prosecutor how cases are formed.
“For this specific case, a case was opened upon an own initiative by a SCPC member. There was work on the case, the procedure was completed ultimately, while that case was ended without suspicions. However, what the submitter contests is the manner of communication with the public”, Ivanovska stressed, adding nonetheless that whether a person didn’t like what media had reported afterwards was a matter concerning that person.
Asked whether she considered the process to represent pressure in relation to her decision to run for Mayor, Ivanovska stated that there should be an answer to the question as to whether all charges activated on 25 July had been submitted to all by police on 14 August.
