Ministry and Acibadem Sistina React to Cardiologist Kedev’s Comments

Sasko Kedev’s comments that private hospitals had performed unnecessary open-heart surgeries just to get state funds have sparked a reaction from the Health Ministry, which will look into the cardiologist’s claims.

“On the basis of information shared publicly, the Health Ministry’s already coordinating to check the claims, as well as to conduct urgent and extraordinary supervision acts to get the full picture”, the institution said on Wednesday.

On the other hand, the Acibadem Sistina Hospital, a private health institution, said that its name had been mentioned by the host of the Kanal 77 show during which Kedev had made the comments, in addition to calling on the cardiologist to reveal the name of the institution.

“We assure the public that allegations about alleged unnecessary surgical interventions at a private hospital, allegedly on the basis of profit, are completely false and cannot concern Acibadem Sistina because there are no grounds. Since Dr Kedev points to one private hospital in his statement, without mentioning its name, we demand that he precisely reveal which private hospital his statement concerns”, it pointed out.

Also, Acibadem Sistina said it would file a lawsuit if he didn’t specify the hospital.

However, Kedev, asked to comment, sent to media a link to a post on X (formerly Twitter) by ex-minister Ganka Cvetanova saying that the lawsuit will be a chance to finally see what really goes on in “Macedonian private healthcare. Looking forward…”.
