Murtezani: Copenhagen Criteria Fundamental for EU Accession Process

Minister of European Affairs Orhan Murtezani attended and addressed the informal meeting of EU members and membership candidates in Copenhagen. In his address, Murtezani emphasised the importance of the Copenhagen criteria in the process of accession of new members in the EU.

“For us, the Copenhagen criteria are a language of democracy and a guarantee that our progress will be measures by fair and objective standards, and not according to bilateral obstacles that do not belong in the core of the European idea.

20 years after the Thessaloniki summit, we must not leave the European perspective of the region as an unfinished project, because that would not only damage the credibility of the EU, but also weakens its role in a rather uncertain geopolitical environment. Our country approaches these processes with trust and clear determination, because the future of the Western Balkans is in the EU”, Murtezani said.
