ANS Affair Continues to Provoke Reactions

The MP group of SDSM demands an urgent session of the Parliamentary Committee on Supervision of the Work of the Agency for National Security (ANS) after the recent claims that PM Hristijan Mickoski and several other people have been illegally followed by ANS for 5 years. SDSM MP Slavjanka Petrovska denied the recent claims of ANS that classified documents can be declassified only by a court order.

“Article 14 of the Law on Classified Information clearly states that it is the creator of the classification, in this case ANS, that determines whether to declassify some information or not”, Petrovska said.

PM Mickoski on the other hand, too claimed that it is the judicial authorities that are to approve or order declassification of the documents, and went on to accuse SDSM that they have conducted the illegal activities.

“It’s becoming a tradition in our country that when SDSM is in power, someone from VMRO-DPMNE is being followed and spied on. I hope the Public Prosecutor’s Office will thoroughly investigate this case, because for decades now intelligence services are abused by a small group of people who want to remain in power by any means necessary”, Mickoski said.

In meantime, the Parliament reported that the Committee on Supervision of the Work of ANS will assemble on Friday upon demand by Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi, and it will be chaired by SDSM MP Petrovska, because its current president, DUI MP Skender Rexhepi Zejd, does not possess a certificate for access to classified documents.
