Mucunski Meets WTO Director-General

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Timco Mucunski, had a constructive meeting with Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, held within his official visit to Geneva.

The Director-General welcomed the Government’s economic and trade policies related to foreign investments, labour market, openness of the economy, and the country’s alignment with WTO frameworks. Minister Mucunski noted that economic reforms are high on the Government’s agenda and reaffirmed the country’s commitments to transforming its economy in line with labour market demands and global trade trends.

He highlighted foreign investments as a strong priority, particularly in sectors such as energy, pharmaceuticals, defence, and other areas where the country can demonstrate high competitiveness.

“The Government’s strong efforts in attracting foreign investments, NATO membership, and the full alignment with EU’s common foreign and security policy, reaffirm that the country is a reliable partner and an attractive investment destination. This is reflected in the increased volume of foreign investments and positive export indicators”, he added.

Both parties agreed that the Western Balkans’ integration must gain greater momentum, as it would lead to new strategic projects, increased investment inflows, accelerated economic development, and expanded market access for domestic companies. Mucunski said active participation and an enhanced cooperation with the WTO will be among the Ministry’s priorities in the period to come.
